Brian Heeger has more than 30 years of experience as a lender, consultant, and developer specializing in affordable, mixed-income, and mixed-use housing, with particular expertise in public housing redevelopment. He is a partner at Duvernay + Brooks, LLC (D+B), a New York City-based affordable housing development and consulting firm. Brian was among D+B’s original employees and, throughout his career with the firm, has advised public housing authorities, nonprofit organizations, and private developers on more than 60 projects representing over 7,500 affordable and mixed-income rental and for-sale homes.
D+B is also an active developer of affordable rental housing, public housing repositioning and redevelopment initiatives, and supportive housing developments. Brian leads the firm’s pursuit of new development opportunities and leads teams to provide a broad range of project management services for developments across New York, Florida, South Carolina, and other states. These projects include nearly 5,000 newly constructed or rehabilitated affordable and mixed-income rental homes that have been completed or are currently under development, representing approximately $2 billion in total investment and undertaken in partnership with local housing agencies, nonprofit organizations, and private developers. Brian has also led or contributed to the preparation of master plans that have generated more than $1 billion in community investment.
Prior to joining D+B, Brian served as a multifamily loan underwriter with the New York State Housing Finance Agency, worked as a consultant for a national urban planning and economic analysis firm, and supported the development of affordable and supportive housing initiatives with a nonprofit housing provider in Chicago. Brian holds a BA in Philosophy from George Washington University and an MPA, with a concentration in Real Estate Development and Urban Policy, from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs.
